THE CRUNCH
IO Interactive has once again delayed the Switch 2 version of 007 First Light, moving the release to March 2027. The studio says the extra time is needed to polish the game and ensure it runs as well as possible on the new hardware. Technical producer Cristina Vega says the porting work is progressing well and that the team is targeting a stable 30 frames per second.
Vega insists the delay is not due to unexpected technical problems but rather a need for a breather and to meet marketing schedules. The team is using a new rendering technique called Meshlets to keep the experience close to the PC version without reducing the number of enemies or NPCs. IO says it has made compromises in areas like object detail rather than cutting gameplay content.
The studio emphasises that the Switch 2 version will not feature fewer enemies or NPCs, a common tactic for optimisation. Instead, IO is focusing on fine-tuning performance and using technical solutions like Meshlets to handle the hardware's limitations. The goal is to keep the core gameplay experience identical across platforms.
