THE CRUNCH

Acer has unveiled the Swift Blade 14, a new entry in its Swift lineup that prioritises portability above all else. The machine weighs just 799 grams, making it one of the lightest 14-inch Windows laptops on the market. TechPowerUp reports the device will launch across Europe, the Middle East and Africa in December, though the price remains a mystery.

The Swift Blade 14 is Acer's first product under a new sub-brand, and it is built to disappear in a bag. The laptop tips the scales at 799 grams, which is roughly the weight of a large bottle of water. This makes it significantly lighter than a 13-inch MacBook Air, though it is slightly thicker at 13.5mm for its OLED configuration. Acer has used a mix of carbon fibre and magnesium-aluminium alloy to keep the chassis rigid without adding bulk.

Under the hood, the laptop is powered by Intel's Wildcat Lake platform. The base configuration features a Core 7 350 CPU, 12GB of LPDDR5-6400 memory and up to 1TB of PCIe Gen 4 NVMe storage. The display is the star of the show, with a 3K OLED panel offering a 90Hz refresh rate and 400 nits of brightness. The screen has a 90 per cent screen-to-body ratio and 4.3mm bezels, giving it a modern, sleek look.

Connectivity is handled by Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3, with three USB Type-C ports providing the main interface options. The laptop also packs a 50Wh battery to keep it running. TechPowerUp notes that the thin chassis might make thermal management a challenge, so independent testing will be needed to see how well it handles sustained workloads.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

The Swift Blade 14 launches across EMEA in December, with pricing yet to be announced.
