THE CRUNCH
Adobe has brought a generative AI Open Eyes tool to Lightroom's mobile app, letting users fix closed eyes in a photo with a single tap. The feature is available on iOS, iPadOS and Android, and was announced on Monday.
When the app detects that a person, or a group of people, has their eyes shut, it automatically surfaces an Open Eyes Quick Action icon over the image, so the fix is one tap away.
The approach differs from the long-standing version in Photoshop Elements, which has offered eye-opening for nearly a decade but sources replacement eyes from another photo of the subject, with mixed results when the two images differ. Lightroom mobile instead generates eyes that match the lighting and pose, and uses other pictures of the same person in your Lightroom library as reference so the result matches their own eye colour, size and shape.
