A new global survey suggests that artificial intelligence is widely viewed as a threat to employment. In 34 of the 37 countries surveyed, people were more likely to believe AI would lead to job losses over the next 20 years rather than create new ones. Worries are particularly high in wealthier nations, with majorities in Australia, South Korea, and the United States expressing concern.
The research, conducted by Pew Research Center, questioned 42,151 people across 37 nations between February 8th and May 13th. The findings indicate that public anxiety about AI's economic impact is widespread, with a majority in the surveyed countries seeing AI as a threat to human employment.
Concerns are notably acute in wealthier nations, where respondents were most likely to predict job losses. In Australia and South Korea, 76 percent of respondents held this view, while in the United States, 71 percent shared the sentiment.
