Amazon has blocked Meta’s Muse AI agent from accessing its online store, citing privacy and security violations. A popup message appeared for Muse users stating that continued access by an unauthorized AI agent violates Amazon's Conditions of Use. Amazon expressed concerns over the agent failing to identify itself and seemingly capturing customer credentials. Meta did not notify Amazon that Muse would access its shop
Amazon also stated that third-party applications offering to make purchases on behalf of customers must identify themselves, a requirement Muse apparently failed to meet.
This incident highlights the friction between emerging AI agents and established e-commerce platforms. As AI tools become more capable of handling transactions, platforms like Amazon are likely to tighten controls to protect user data and prevent unauthorised access.
