THE CRUNCH
AMD has posted another record quarter, with revenue topping $13 billion and net income of $2.4 billion. CFO and treasurer Jean Hu is projecting around $17 billion for the fourth quarter, while Intel is guiding for flat to slightly down revenue of $15 to $16 billion. If both land where they expect, it would mark the first time AMD has generated higher total revenue than Intel in the company's history.
Revenue is the milestone here, not profit. AMD has beaten Intel on the bottom line before, most notably in 2024, when Intel reported an $18.7 billion annual loss while AMD made $1.6 billion, and it did so again last year. Total revenue, though, has stayed with Intel, whose figures have remained relatively flat while AMD's have surged.
The scale of the climb is striking: AMD's recent earnings call puts its revenue at roughly double what it was reporting just two years ago. Whether the projected revenue jump will also lift AMD's net income past Intel's current $3 billion mark is less certain, but the revenue race itself is close to settled.
