THE CRUNCH
Apple is bringing an AI assistant to its productivity suite, including Pages, Keynote and Numbers. The assistant, built on AI models from Apple and OpenAI, can read a document's context to carry out tasks: drafting, restructuring and tweaking written content in Pages; designing, animating and refining slides in Keynote; and calculating, visualising and organising data in Numbers, including suggesting chart types and building custom tables.
It is rolling out in beta to devices compatible with Apple Intelligence, running iOS 27, iPadOS 27 or macOS 27 or later. Keynote, Pages and Numbers also now support the Model Context Protocol on macOS 27 or later, an open standard that lets third-party AI agents plug into the apps.
Apple's creative apps are getting updates too. Pixelmator Pro gains a Generate Fill feature for editing part of an image by describing the change, with Apple saying it automatically matches the lighting, perspective and texture of the surroundings. Logic Pro gets a Liquid Glass redesign plus an assistant that can set up a vocal track from a single prompt, and Final Cut Pro gains MotionVFX templates and a built-in Content Hub of stock media. The Creator's Studio updates arrive free for existing subscribers in November.
