THE CRUNCH

Apple is developing two game controllers, codenamed T6502 and T1057, which will be sold under the Beats brand, according to Bloomberg. The devices are designed to turn iPhones into handheld gaming consoles and may also work with third-party hardware.

The T1057 controller includes accelerometer and gyroscope support, while the T6502 does not. The T1057 is reportedly designed to function independently with third-party devices, whereas the T6502 relies on the iPhone's accelerometer for sensory input.

Apple owns the Beats brand and has used it for non-traditional products in the past. This move aligns with the increasing raw power of mobile SoCs, making the phone a natural choice for a handheld gaming experience.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

Apple is reportedly designing the controllers for a handheld mobile experience first, with a rollout planned through the Beats brand.
