THE CRUNCH
Arm has introduced its next-generation Neoverse CSS N4 ‘Ranger’ platform, a semi-custom compute subsystem designed for high-performance data centre workloads. The new design leverages TSMC’s N3P manufacturing process and significantly expands core density and cache capacity compared to its predecessor.
The Neoverse CSS N4 ‘Ranger’ platform is built on TSMC’s N3P process node and is positioned as a substantial upgrade to the previous Neoverse CSS N2 generation. The key specifications include support for up to 128 cores per die and a substantial 256 MB of L3 cache, which represents a significant increase in core density and memory hierarchy capacity over the N2 platform.
Arm describes the CSS N4 as a semi-custom platform, suggesting it is designed to be integrated into custom silicon solutions rather than sold as a standalone product. This approach allows customers to tailor the compute subsystem to their specific requirements while benefiting from Arm’s architectural expertise and the efficiency of the N3P process.
