THE CRUNCH

Asus has launched the ROG Swift PG27UCWM, a 27-inch 4K OLED gaming monitor that balances high refresh rates with improved panel technology. The display supports 240Hz at native resolution and 480Hz in Full HD, while also offering HDR10 and Dolby Vision. It uses a Tandem RGB Stripe panel to deliver higher brightness and lower power consumption compared to single-layer OLEDs.

The monitor features a Tandem RGB Stripe OLED panel, which Asus claims offers sharper imagery and better colour volume than previous single-layer OLEDs. The panel supports 10-bit colour and covers over 102% of the DCI-P3 gamut. Peak brightness reaches just under 500 nits, and the display includes Asus' TrueBlack Glossy coating to reduce reflections. The unit is factory calibrated and comes with a comprehensive on-screen display for adjustments.

Connectivity is robust, including DisplayPort 2.1 with 80 Gbps bandwidth, two HDMI 2.1 ports, and a USB-C port with power delivery up to 90 watts. The monitor also supports Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro. Asus has included a dual-refresh feature called Frame Rate Boost, allowing users to switch between 4K/240 Hz and Full HD/480 Hz with a single button press. The stand offers full ergonomic adjustments, including tilt, swivel, and portrait mode.

The PG27UCWM is priced at $1,099 and is aimed at the premium segment. It is fanless and runs cool during use, with a metal plate and graphene layer helping to dissipate heat. The device includes a USB hub with KVM functionality and a range of RGB lighting options controlled through the DisplayWidget Center app.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

Asus has not announced any immediate follow-up products, but the success of this monitor could influence the adoption of dual-layer OLED panels in the gaming market.
