THE CRUNCH

Blizzard has officially set a Spring 2029 release window for Diablo 5, shifting the setting to a world where Diablo has already won. Narrative director Jennifer Hepler described a unique bond between the protagonist and the Lord of Terror that allows players to enter his personal domain and unlock new abilities. The game will feature a travelling caravan instead of traditional towns, with the world changing each time

players return to a location due to corrupting Dread Commanders reshaping the terrain.

Blizzard is also introducing a mechanic called Terror Forming, which causes the environment to visibly change as players revisit areas.

The studio plans to drip-feed updates over the next three years, giving fans plenty to discuss before launch.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

Blizzard will likely provide more details on the protagonist's bond with Diablo and the specific mechanics of Terror Forming in future updates.
