THE CRUNCH
The director of The Blood of Dawnwalker has expressed frustration with players demanding 120fps frame rates for the game. Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, who previously directed The Witcher 3, told Eurogamer he is
Tomaszkiewicz argues that the game is not a shooter and that performance above 60fps is considered 'above good' by the team. He notes that while smooth motion aids immersion, the core experience does not require the high refresh rates typical of competitive shooters. The director also pointed out that the game's system requirements demand an RTX 5090 to hit 60fps at 4K with Ultra settings, suggesting that the hardware demands are already significant.
The interview highlights a generational divide in player expectations. Tomaszkiewicz recalled that when The Witcher 3 launched in 2015, most monitors ran at 60Hz, and 144Hz screens were the latest super-fast models. He noted that he happily completed the game on a 60Hz screen, suggesting that the current push for 120fps may be driven by newer hardware and competitive gaming norms rather than the needs of single-player RPGs.
