FCC chairman Brendan Carr says he will defer to Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth on whether TV networks can air the planned execution of Nidal Hasan, the convicted Fort Hood shooter, by firing squad. Speaking in a CNBC interview, Carr said: "My understanding is it's not on broadcast TV, so I don't think there's a role for the FCC one way or the other. But I trust" the Secretary to decide otherwise.
The Pentagon has said the execution will be livestreamed, which would place it on an online platform beyond the FCC's jurisdiction. Even so, broadcast networks commonly air live video of government events, and the agency does have authority over what goes out on the public airwaves, so the question of who decides is not entirely settled.
