THE CRUNCH

Bungie has dropped a teaser that reads like a re-release of the original Destiny. In a recent Steam community update, Josh Deane, the studio's new general manager for Marathon, said Bungie is "not done with Destiny" and announced "Destiny Legacy", writing that "the whole experience needs to be served to you all where you play today". The phrasing suggests the decade-old game could be relaunched on modern platforms, though Bungie has not confirmed that.

Details are thin. The update only promises "a new February Progress bar" and says more information will arrive "early next year", so the shape of Legacy, whether a full remaster, re-release or something else, remains unannounced.

The teaser follows a rocky stretch for the studio. TechPowerUp characterises the launch of Marathon as disappointing and says it came at the cost of development support for Destiny 2 and much of the team behind it. Legacy also fits Bungie's stated plan, from a prior studio update, to "return Destiny to its original promise".

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

Bungie says to expect more information on Destiny Legacy early next year, with a new February Progress bar teased in the Steam update.
