THE CRUNCH

The Game Bakers has announced that Cairn, the survival climbing adventure, will receive its first free downloadable content, On the Trail: Deep Water, on October 29. The update introduces water soloing, a new climbing mechanic that lets players scale over water without the usual risk of falling, alongside three new climbing areas. Players can also take control of the characters Marco and Aava in the new content.

The new DLC is the first in a planned series of free updates for Cairn. It invites players to follow the trail of a legendary climber while tackling fresh challenges in previously unexplored locations. The update adds water soloing, a technique where climbers scale rock formations directly over water, removing the lethal consequences of a fall. This mechanic joins the existing gameplay, which has players managing survival needs while scaling treacherous heights.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

The developer plans to release further free content in this series. A Switch 2 version of Cairn is scheduled for release in early 2027.
