THE CRUNCH

CD Projekt Red is expanding its portfolio to Blizzard's Battle.net platform, bringing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered and Cyberpunk 2077 with its Phantom Liberty expansion to the service. As part of the partnership, the two studios have revealed a Geralt of Rivia skin for the Barbarian class in Diablo 4. The skin is unlocked by pre-ordering or purchasing The Witcher 3's Songs of the Past expansion on Battle.net,,

This requirement effectively forces players to buy The Witcher 3 on a new storefront, as the game has been available for over a decade and most owners already have it on Steam, GOG or consoles. The skin is also constrained by the existing hitbox and moveset of the Barbarian class, leading to criticism from fans who feel it does not look fully custom. The crossover comes shortly after Blizzard confirmed that Diablo 4 will not receive further expansions before the release of Diablo 5, which has led some players to question the purchase entirely.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

Given the backlash, CD Projekt Red has not ruled out selling the skin separately to Diablo 4 owners, which would likely resolve the storefront dispute.
