THE CRUNCH

ChatGPT Voice has been upgraded to run on OpenAI's new GPT-6 Astra, Sol and Luna models and can now access plugins for email, calendar and Slack. Users can handle tasks by voice, such as checking events, sending messages or spotting duplicate charges in finance apps. The feature is available now in the latest ChatGPT app on web and mobile.

OpenAI shows off everyday scenarios in a demo video, including weather lookups and online shopping. Voice also works in ChatGPT Work, where users can create documents, presentations and spreadsheets just by talking. CEO Sam Altman has previously cited the sci-fi film Her as a reference for the assistant's ambitions.

The update marks a step towards a more hands-free, conversational computing experience. By connecting to email and calendar, the assistant can act as a practical productivity tool rather than just a chatbot. The move also highlights the growing integration of AI into daily workflows through voice interfaces.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

OpenAI will likely expand the range of supported apps and refine the assistant's ability to handle multi-step tasks.
