THE CRUNCH
Google is giving Chrome's autofill an AI upgrade that lets the browser fill in forms using details pulled from your Gmail. Announced on Wednesday, the feature can suggest things like a flight confirmation number, membership ID, tracking information, order number, address, phone number or credit card number by referencing your email.
The update is an expansion of Google's Personal Intelligence, which already connects Google apps to its Gemini assistant so it can retrieve details and answer more complex questions. As with other Personal Intelligence features, users choose whether to enable enhanced autofill from Chrome settings, and Google notes that sensitive data is encrypted.
It is rolling out to US users on desktop and in the iOS and Android apps for Gemini in Chrome. The comparison point is Apple's well-liked ability to detect verification codes in texts and surface them above the keyboard for one-tap entry.
