THE CRUNCH
Cohere has launched North 2, an update that turns its enterprise platform into a control centre for AI agents. The system handles multi-step workflows on its own and keeps context between sessions, while a revamped orchestration layer coordinates agents tapping shared knowledge libraries and reusable skills. Cohere is aiming the platform squarely at government agencies and regulated industries that want to keep AI under their own control.
The platform coordinates agents that draw on shared knowledge libraries and reusable skills, and connects to workplace tools such as Slack, SharePoint and Jira. North 2 can also generate presentations, dashboards and simple apps directly from text prompts in the chat.
It is model-agnostic: alongside Cohere's own models, such as Command A+, organisations can plug in their own. Deployment is flexible too, with options to run on-premises, in the cloud or fully air-gapped, the last of which in general terms means isolated from outside networks.
On the governance side, admins use North Admin to manage token usage, user quotas and access rights down to individual agents, and agents must request human approval before taking critical actions. Cohere says its models need fewer tokens on Nvidia's Blackwell and Hopper hardware, and LG CNS and Bell Cyber are already running North in production.
