THE CRUNCH

Dark Messiah of Might & Magic is getting an official-feeling second life. Dark Messiah: Community Edition, a free upgrade built by modders at WiltOS Technologies with Ubisoft's direct support, now has a Steam page and is due out in 2026. The project ports the 2006 orc-kicking immersive sim to the latest Source engine and adds Linux and 64-bit support, restored cut content, co-op, New Game+, an adventure mode with bonus levels, new spells and abilities such as sliding, randomly-generated levels and Steam Workshop support.

The most unusual feature is the return of console-exclusive maps and modes, which never shipped on PC. Ubisoft invited the team to Ubisoft Montreal to get those working on the PC version, and the developer said on the Steam forum that the publisher is supporting the project directly.

Rather than positioning the edition as a definitive mod, WiltOS Technologies describes it as a new foundation: the team plans to keep developing new modes and features while inviting the community to build on it, with the game's tools designed so fans can shape it themselves.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

The Steam page is live but no specific release date has been announced beyond 2026, so the launch window is worth watching as the year closes.
