THE CRUNCH
Dell has launched the Pro 7 Webcam 4K, a premium device that records at 4K resolution and up to 60 frames per second. The camera features a Sony STARVIS CMOS sensor, dual beam-forming microphones and a spring-loaded privacy shutter. At $199.99, it sits in a crowded market with rivals like the Logitech MX Brio and the Insta360 Link 2.
The Dell Pro 7 is a 4K webcam that supports 60fps video, a frame rate most rivals do not offer. It uses a Sony STARVIS CMOS sensor and an f/2.0 aperture for low-light performance. The device includes dual beam-forming microphones, which reviewers say are the first built-in mics they can recommend for a webcam. It also supports Windows Hello and smart image enhancements.
The Pro 7 is larger and heavier than the cheaper Dell Pro 5, but it is still lighter than some competitors. It measures 2.6 inches deep by 2.1 inches wide and weighs about 8.48 ounces including the mount. The webcam comes with a detachable USB-C cable and a magnetic monitor mount. The mount is sturdy but limits movement options compared to a tripod.
Despite its high resolution, most video conferencing apps will cap the stream at 1080p. The reviewer notes that the 4K capability is more useful for recording action sequences than for standard calls. The camera includes a physical privacy shutter that snaps into place, though it requires a firm press to activate.
