THE CRUNCH
A PS5 emulator called KyTyPS5 has achieved a significant performance milestone for the Bluepoint remake of Demon's Souls, reaching a genuine 30 FPS in at least one area. The progress has been rapid, with the emulator moving from 1 to 2 FPS a day earlier to 10 to 18 FPS two days prior, and now hitting 30 FPS. However, the experience is not stable, with frame drops back to around 18 FPS when the camera moves and frame‑
pacing issues present. The emulator only managed to boot the game past the character creation screen a little over a week ago, and hitting 30 FPS was expected to take until 2027. Some online speculation suggests AI‑assisted code may be behind the sudden gains, but this remains unconfirmed. The emulator has also made progress with other titles, such as getting the PS5 version of GTA 5 running at up to 60 FPS, though Astro Bot remains at a rough 11 FPS.
Why It Matters: This rapid progress suggests that PS5 emulation could mature much faster than initially predicted, potentially shortening the gap between console releases and PC compatibility. The unconfirmed use of AI tools highlights how emerging technologies are influencing software development, even in niche areas like emulation.
