THE CRUNCH

Maximum Entertainment and developer Winter Crew have announced that the side-scrolling Metroidvania Fallen Tear: The Ascension will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch in 2027. The game, which blends JRPG party-building with Metroidvania exploration and souls-like challenge, is currently available on PC after a period in Early Access.

The title casts players as Hira, a mysterious child fated to stand against ancient gods in the high-fantasy world of Raoah. Players will recruit 22 potential companions, each lending unique abilities to combat and traversal, and must build and customise their home base, the Temple of Oras, between expeditions.

The game is described as a fusion of emotional weight and party-building from classic JRPGs with the freeform exploration of a Metroidvania and a touch of souls-like challenge. It features a hand-drawn, interconnected world on the brink of collapse, dynamic combat with slash, parry, and dodge mechanics, and deep skill trees for customising loadouts.
