THE CRUNCH

TAITO has announced Lufia I & II: The Sinistrals Saga for PlayStation 5, Switch 2, Switch, and PC. The collection bundles Lufia & the Fortress of Doom and Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals, two fondly remembered SNES JRPGs, and is due out in 2027. It will be published in the west by Clear River Games.

The collection ports the games lovingly and enhances them for modern play, preserving the original storylines and soundtracks that touched players in the 1990s. The first game follows a young man and woman burdened by destiny, while the prequel focuses on Maxim and his companions battling fate itself.

The announcement comes alongside other retro collections hitting modern platforms, such as the Toshinden Collection and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Jong REMASTER, suggesting a resurgence in interest for classic titles.

Why It Matters: This release offers a modern entry point for the Lufia series, which has been dormant for years, and follows a trend of publishers reviving classic JRPGs for new audiences.
