THE CRUNCH

MediaTek has unveiled the Dimensity CX C10 Max, a new 3nm system-on-chip designed for Google’s new Googlebook category of laptops. The processor features an all-performance-core design with eight CPU cores and an Arm Immortalis-G925 GPU, delivering up to 55 TOPS of AI performance. MediaTek claims the chip will offer up to 19 hours of battery life and will launch alongside Googlebooks on September 21. The C10 Max is a

flagship for the new CX lineup, though its core configuration mirrors that of the Kompanio Ultra 910, using a Cortex-X925, three Cortex-X4, and four Cortex-A720 cores. The two chips share the same GPU, NPU, and cache sizes, with the primary difference being a faster memory speed of up to 9,600MT/s. MediaTek asserts the C10 Max is positioned to compete with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite X1E-84-100, claiming up to 15% faster multi-threaded performance and 50% lower power in single-threaded workloads. However, these figures come from different test platforms and lack direct comparisons to x86 competitors. MediaTek has confirmed the chip is exclusive to Googlebooks and will not flow down to standard Chromebooks.

The launch of the C10 Max represents MediaTek’s push into the premium Windows laptop market, a segment traditionally dominated by Intel and AMD. By targeting Googlebooks with a custom SoC, the company aims to offer a distinct alternative to the standard x86 offerings found in most Chromebooks. This move could pressure competitors to reconsider their pricing and feature strategies in the budget and mid-range laptop space.
