THE CRUNCH

Meta has announced that the Quest 2 and Quest Pro VR headsets will receive their last OS update, version 213, by March 2027. Both headsets were discontinued in 2024, and the company is now setting an end date for their software support.

Support does not stop entirely at that point. Meta says it will keep shipping security patches and critical bug fixes for the two headsets through the end of 2027, and apps that support them can still be submitted until December 2027.

The company is framing the Quest 3 and 3S as "now the baseline for Meta VR gamers", noting that apps built for them carry forward to the upcoming Meta VR Glasses, which run on the same OS and SDKs and are planned for spring 2027. Meta launched the Quest 2 in 2020 and the Quest Pro in 2022, and says millions of people still play on the older headsets.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

The Meta VR Glasses, which share the same OS and SDKs as the Quest 3 and 3S, are planned to launch in spring 2027.
