THE CRUNCH
A new open-source launcher called Xodus Nexus can download and play Microsoft Store games on Linux, including titles available through the PC Game Pass subscription. That means select games can run locally on SteamOS devices such as the Steam Deck, rather than only through cloud streaming.
Built on the Xodus project, the app lets you browse the Microsoft store and your library on Linux machines, then install games you have purchased or access through Game Pass. Game Pass support is still experimental, with finicky navigation and loading loops, and the developer notes that mouse or touch controls may still be needed for some login windows and system dialogues. Some Reddit users have reported that games do run.
Beyond installing and launching titles, the launcher can access cloud saves in supported games, so a session can start on one machine and finish on another. It can also add shortcuts to Steam, letting games run through Steam's Gaming Mode. According to its developer, at least 42 games are fully playable, including online titles such as Deep Rock Galactic, No Man's Sky, Palworld and Forza Horizon 6.
The caveats are real. Problem games have shown issues ranging from crashes after launch to online problems, and results can vary between Linux distros and machines. Officially, Microsoft's Store remains exclusive to Windows, so until anything changes, this remains a community workaround rather than a supported route.
