THE CRUNCH
Nvidia appears to have no plans to launch any next-gen GeForce GPUs in 2027, according to often-reliable tech leaker Kepler_L2. This means the RTX 6090 will be delayed beyond 2027, with the entire RTX 60 series expected to arrive in 2028. AMD is reportedly preparing a single RDNA 5 GPU for the end of 2027, codenamed Alpha Trion 2 (AT2), with the rest of the new Radeon range following in 2028. Kepler_L2 dismissed a 60
The leaker, who posts on the Anandtech forums, also addressed recent rumours about the RTX 5000 Super range, suggesting they may not be released at all. This follows a similar sentiment from another leaker, MEGAsizeGPU, who expressed pessimism about the lineup. The lack of new gaming GPUs is attributed to the current state of the DRAM market, where memory makers are shifting capacity to HBM for AI data centres, leaving little supply for GDDR chips. This shortage makes it expensive and difficult to manufacture new graphics cards with higher VRAM capacities.
AMD is also rumoured to be working on an extremely powerful RDNA 5 chip, codenamed AT0, which could go up against the RTX 6090. There are also whispers about AT3 and AT4 flavours at the cheaper end of the scale. Essentially, the gaming GPU market is set to be on hold for over a year, leaving enthusiasts waiting until 2028 for significant upgrades.
