THE CRUNCH
Perplexity has launched Portable Computer, a local version of its AI agent, for Windows PCs equipped with NVIDIA RTX GPUs. The tool uses local models to handle multistep tasks and keeps sensitive information on the device, avoiding the need to send data to the cloud. It also integrates with apps like Outlook, OneDrive, and GitHub to assist with workflows.
The agent is built on a local model, such as Qwen 3.8 27B, which is post-trained for Perplexity and optimised for NVIDIA RTX GPUs. This setup removes the need for users to research or configure the complex software stack typically required to run local AI. For tasks that need more advanced reasoning, Portable Computer can request permission before sending information to cloud models.
The software connects to Microsoft Outlook, OneDrive, Word, Google Drive, Gmail, Slack and GitHub. NVIDIA says this allows the agent to perform practical work, such as reviewing pull requests, analysing tax documents, or identifying drop-offs in startup funnels. The release adds to existing support for NVIDIA DGX Spark systems and RTX PCs running Linux.
