THE CRUNCH

MediaTek has unveiled the Dimensity 9600 Pro, a new flagship smartphone chip that the company says is the first to be built on a 2 nanometre process node. The processor is designed to combine high performance with power efficiency and is positioned to support advanced agentic AI experiences on mobile devices.

The Dimensity 9600 Pro is MediaTek's latest flagship system on a chip (SoC). The company claims it is the first smartphone processor to be manufactured on a 2 nm process node, a step down from the 3 nm nodes used by rivals. MediaTek says the chip delivers a dual improvement in both performance and power efficiency. It is built on a Native AI architecture, which the company says is required to keep up with evolving user demands for intelligent features.

MediaTek's corporate senior vice president JC Hsu said that AI is central to the smartphone experience and that devices need greater performance and efficiency to support it. The Dimensity 9600 Pro is intended to meet these demands by providing the hardware foundation for new agentic AI experiences on mobile phones.
