THE CRUNCH
OnlyOffice has launched version 10.0 of its open-source office suite, a major autumn update the company says packs around 50 new features and more than 1,000 fixes across its online, desktop and mobile editors. The headline addition is context-aware AI built directly into the document, spreadsheet, presentation and PDF editors, alongside four new modular apps and a security update covering 35 vulnerabilities.
The AI works through a dedicated tab with built-in chat, so teams can draft, summarise, translate, clean and format content without leaving the file. Ready-made prompts, custom AI actions and saved prompts aim to automate routine tasks. Organisations choose which models to use based on quality, speed and cost: cloud users can connect via OpenRouter, while server deployments can plug in any model, including local ones, keeping sensitive data on their own infrastructure.
The release also introduces four free apps that extend OnlyOffice Docs under the AGPL v3 licence: AI Agents for workspace automation, Forms for data collection, Files for centralised storage and Rooms for secure collaboration, including Virtual Data Rooms. They are on by default in the cloud and install with a single command on servers.
Elsewhere, the PDF editor gains metadata removal, automatic table recognition and reusable signatures; document co-authors can follow each other's cursors in real time; and spreadsheets run faster with optimised functions. The mobile apps add an AI assistant with providers including Grok and DeepSeek, plus voice input. In the free Desktop Community edition, AI tools are an optional add-on.
