THE CRUNCH

The KytyPS5 emulator has advanced rapidly, allowing the PS5 version of GTA V to run at up to 60 FPS on PC for a few minutes before crashing. This progress is part of a broader surge in PS5 emulation activity, with at least four other titles also reportedly running at 60 FPS, though a playable build of GTA VI remains distant.

The KytyPS5 project has achieved a notable milestone by rendering the PS5 version of Grand Theft Auto V at up to 60 FPS on PC. This performance is reportedly limited to a few minutes of gameplay, specifically within the opening North Yankton scene, before the emulator crashes.

The KytyPS5 team demonstrated the feat using a Ryzen 9 9950X3D processor and a Radeon RX 7900 XT graphics card. The performance fluctuates between 40 and 60 FPS depending on the scene, but the experience is unstable and does not persist long enough for a full playthrough.

The rapid progress in PS5 emulation is not limited to GTA V. At least four other PS5 titles have reportedly been shown running at 60 FPS on the emulator. Meanwhile, a competing project, SharpEmu, is taking a slower approach by focusing on low-level accuracy and infrastructure before tackling specific game compatibility.

The surge in emulation activity comes as PS5 hardware demand remains high ahead of the launch of GTA VI. However, even with the current astronomical pace of development, it is considered unlikely that a playable build of GTA VI will be available on these emulators in the near future.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

The KytyPS5 team will likely continue to optimise the emulator to extend the playtime and stability of PS5 titles, while SharpEmu is expected to focus on foundational accuracy before tackling individual games.
