THE CRUNCH
Cloudflare has announced that Python Workers are now generally available, marking Python as a first-class language on its developer platform. The update removes the need for developers to write JavaScript glue code to connect Python applications to Cloudflare services like queues and databases. The company also introduced native support for popular web frameworks such as FastAPI, Django, and Flask, allowing them to n
This is made possible by thin connectors that translate standard web server interfaces into the JavaScript environment, letting developers focus on application logic while the platform handles scaling.
To support database connections, Cloudflare has implemented a custom socket system call bridge that allows Python database drivers to work inside the WebAssembly sandbox. This change enables the use of Hyperdrive for PostgreSQL and MySQL, previously unavailable because standard WebAssembly environments block POSIX networking calls. By translating these calls at the system level, Cloudflare lets developers use familiar database tools without changing their code.
