THE CRUNCH

Alphabet had what CEO Sundar Pichai called a strong third quarter, with revenues up 25% year-over-year and the company now at what he described as a half-trillion-dollar annual run rate. On the Q3 2026 earnings call, he credited a "full-stack" approach spanning chips, models and consumer products for the momentum.

The standout numbers came from AI and cloud. Google Cloud revenues grew 103%, driven by AI infrastructure and solutions, and Pichai said the company is working to bring more capacity online to meet long-term demand. Demand for its TPU systems is also strong across a wide range of customers, he said. First-party model APIs are now processing nearly 32 billion tokens per minute, 40% more than last quarter and more than four times the level of a year ago.

On models, Google announced Gemini 4 Carbon, described as its strongest frontier model, which the company said ranks first on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index at 59 and outperforms the recently launched Gemini 4 Argon across most domains. Access is starting with a subset of trusted cyber defenders before expanding, and Pichai said it is being tested by the U.S. government. Argon, launched two weeks earlier, ramped up developer usage three-and-a-half times faster than Gemini 3 in its first week, according to Pichai, and internal teams have used it to ship 35% more code with 30% fewer errors.

Consumer figures also featured. The Gemini app has reached one billion users, which Pichai called the fastest-growing product in Google's history, while YouTube Music and Premium have surpassed 150 million subscribers globally, a figure that includes trials. Search query growth is, he claimed, at its highest year-over-year rate in five years, with AI Mode queries averaging three times longer than traditional searches and visual searches now exceeding 50 billion per month.
