THE CRUNCH
Qualcomm is bringing first-class support for its Snapdragon X2 Elite and Plus laptop processors to Linux. The company has integrated full SoC support into the Linux kernel, enabling the Hexagon NPU, Adreno GPU, and CPU cluster. Initial enablement covers modern browser acceleration, graphics, I/O peripherals, display output, and local AI inference. Qualcomm is also adding proper power and thermal control to ensure the
reliability and endurance of the SoC under load. The work is being pushed upstream to the Linux kernel, with a collaboration on a Debian image. Basic workloads will run out of the box, though Qualcomm is still testing for gaps and addressing edge cases like power spikes. The enablement is expected to finish in November, after which Qualcomm plans to add more OEMs and potentially ship Snapdragon X2 PCs with Linux pre-installed.
