THE CRUNCH

Naughty Dog is reportedly working on a new Uncharted game, according to a rumor and partial corroboration from Video Games Chronicle. The project is said to be the studio's next release after Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, with Shaun Escayag attached to direct. The story is still in the early stages of development.

The rumor, first reported by MP1st and partially corroborated by Video Games Chronicle, claims Naughty Dog is developing a new Uncharted title. This would be the first mainline entry in the series since Uncharted 4: A Thief's End in 2016, with the franchise having been dormant for a decade. The new game is allegedly not a remake, though specific details about its contents remain scarce.

According to the reports, the new Uncharted game will feature Nathan Drake in some capacity. Video Games Chronicle notes that Uncharted 4 ended with Drake's daughter Cassie discovering relics, which could set up her as a protagonist. However, the sources are unable to confirm whether Drake will be the main character or appear as a side character.

Shaun Escayag is reportedly returning to Naughty Dog to direct the new Uncharted game. Escayag previously served as Creative Director on Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and Director on The Last of Us Part I. He briefly left Naughty Dog to helm Crystal Dynamics' Marvel's Avengers before returning to the studio.

The new game is said to be in the early stages of development. Naughty Dog president Neil Druckmann previously claimed in 2023 that the studio had 'moved on' from Uncharted, but a recruiter's post the following year hinted at future Uncharted releases. The project is expected to follow Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, which is scheduled for release next year.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

The project is still in the early stages of development, so a release date is not expected in the near future.
