THE CRUNCH

Sapphire has released a firmware update for its Radeon RX 7000 series cards to address a security issue. The update covers all desktop models in the RDNA 3 lineup, including the RX 7600, RX 7700 XT, RX 7800 XT, RX 7900 GRE, RX 7900 XT, and RX 7900 XTX. Sapphire says the update is now available and that users should install the latest AMD Adrenalin Edition graphics driver before applying the patch.

The update is one of the rare occurrences of GPU vBIOS updates in recent times, as Sapphire notes that these are typically reserved for security patches.

To install the update, users must run the AMD Radeon Firmware Updater tool as an administrator. The tool will detect the GPU and prompt for a reboot. For Radeon RX/PRO 7000 Series cards, the tool automatically runs twice: once in regular mode and a second time in safe mode to complete the process.

After installation, users can confirm the new firmware version using the AMD Adrenalin software.
