THE CRUNCH
Valve developers have told Club386 that the Steam Deck 2 remains on track despite the current chaos in RAM pricing. Pierre-Loup Griffais and Jeff Leinbaugh Griffais said the company is still working back from the user experience and performance goals, and that the hardware is evolving at the same spot in the market as the Steam Machine. They added that the current hardware shortage has not impacted the way Valve is,
Griffais said Valve is looking at current conditions to see how and when it can deliver the device, but that the goals for the product are very similar to those of the original Steam Deck. The developers also noted that memory prices are trending in the same direction as other components, and that the Steam Machine is not getting more expensive than a comparable PC.
The comments come as RAM prices have surged, making it more expensive to build PCs and handhelds. Valve's insistence that the Steam Deck 2 is still on track suggests that the company is confident it can manage the costs or that the device will be worth the premium.
