THE CRUNCH

Eight years, four months and 23 days after a bare title card first appeared, Bethesda has given The Elder Scrolls 6 a name: Sentinel. The reveal came in a video marking the studio's 40th anniversary, published on 3rd November 2026, almost exactly 15 years after Skyrim launched. The teaser shows glimpses of sandy terrain before the subtitle is formally unveiled, with studio director Todd Howard narrating a look back at Bethesda's history from its early sports games to The Elder Scrolls.

The video includes a quote from Yazar, Moth Priest of High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell, dated to the year 4E 206. As UESP pointed out, that places Sentinel at least five years after the events of Skyrim. The quote and the desert backdrop also point to the setting: Hammerfell, homeland of the Redguards, with Sentinel one of the region's major kingdoms and capital of the Alik'r Desert.

The announcement lands two days after a report by The Verge's Tom Warren predicted both the Sentinel name and the Hammerfell setting, and suggested the reveal would be a name only, with no gameplay or release date. That has proved accurate: no other details were disclosed. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has previously said she watched a live playthrough of the game at Bethesda's offices in August.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

The Game Awards 2026 on 10th December is the most likely venue for the next look at Sentinel, though nothing has been announced.
