THE CRUNCH

The city-building simulator Tropico 7 will launch for Nintendo Switch 2 on January 28, 2027, publisher Kalypso Media and developer Gaming Minds Studios announced. The port is being handled by Engine Software and is part of the Special Edition, which includes five campaign maps and 10 extra scenarios. The Switch 2 version supports mouse controls for Joy-Con 2 controllers and GameChat for voice communication.

The Switch 2 port brings the series' signature mix of city building, politics, and economics to a handheld-optimised version. Players can use the console's unique features for precise island construction and management. The game also introduces a revamped Council where faction leaders can be negotiated with or ignored, and a Terraforming feature that allows players to raise land, redirect rivers, and create new islands.

The Special Edition on Switch 2 includes more than 20 sandbox maps and a random map generator. Players can customise the appearance of El Presidente and their palace with new creative options. The game also features a reworked military system for direct control of military units and a vast portfolio of edicts depending on political standing.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

The game is set to release in January 2027, giving players several months to prepare for the launch.
