THE CRUNCH

A developer has ported an open-source PS5 emulator to Xbox Series X, with Quake II playable but performance and compatibility are limited. The project, dubbed KytyPS5, uses AI tools and adapts the emulator's Vulkan graphics code to DirectX, as the Xbox environment does not support Vulkan. Quake II runs between 25 and 45 FPS, dipping below 20 FPS on boot, and input latency is noticeably higher. The developer notes the

project is a research effort with very limited compatibility and a lot of work left. He also cautions that progress on the PC version may not carry over automatically due to the graphics adaptation.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

The developer plans to continue improving compatibility and performance, but progress on the PC version may not directly transfer.
