THE CRUNCH
DoorDash is rolling out a text-based AI agent that can handle food orders and recommendations, expanding on its earlier in-app chatbot. The new feature, which builds on the Ask DoorDash AI chatbot introduced in June, allows users to send a text message to place orders without opening the app. Users can request specific dishes, ask for local recommendations, or tell the bot to 'order my usual protein bowl to the office,' which the system will then process. The company says ordering is now as easy as sending a text message.
DoorDash is also expanding its Dasher returns feature nationwide in November.
The new message ordering capability is designed to let users skip the app entirely and offload browsing to the AI.
By launching this AI agent, DoorDash is looking to gain an edge over rivals Uber Eats and Grubhub.
