THE CRUNCH
Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a surprise free update this week, its first in over a year. Update 2.5 arrives on October 22 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with the Switch 2 version following a couple of days later, according to CDPR media manager Laura Beitzel. It ties into Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, which premiered all ten episodes on Netflix on October 20, and CD Projekt Red detailed the contents during a REDstream broadcast on October 21.
The headline additions are a dual-wielding skill for pistols and revolvers, cyberware customisation through new "glam docs" that recolour implants, and cross-platform mod support built with Mod.io, letting players browse and install mods from an in-game panel. There is also a new Edgerunners-related story quest written with people involved in the Netflix show. A CDPR publishing producer said it will be a prequel to Edgerunners 2, introducing characters Emily, Meshuga and Miguel, and a new radio station packs 16 tracks from both anime seasons.
Quieter additions include Night City Tours, a mystery-flavoured, less action-focused quest type, collectable tarot arcana, a long-requested field of vision slider and a batch of performance optimisations. On PC, the game will natively support Nvidia's DLSS 4.5 suite, including the latest upscaling, frame generation and ray tracing denoiser models, plus dynamic multi frame generation, which adjusts the frame-generation multiplier on the fly based on your distance from a target frame rate. Players could already force the newest DLSS models via Nvidia App overrides since August 2025, but the patch makes them work out of the box.
The update was a genuine surprise: 2.3 arrived in July 2025 and looked like the game's final major update, with a smaller 2.31 patch following in September. The studio has since focused on The Witcher 4, which has a 2028 release window. Notably, the 2.31 patch launched on Switch 2 alongside other platforms, so this staggered release is unusual.
