THE CRUNCH

Intel appears to have settled on "BFC" as the brand extension for its answer to AMD's 3D V-Cache, according to leaked technical documentation reported by TechPowerUp. The technology, previously referred to in leaks as "bLLC" for "big last-level cache," will feature in upcoming Core Ultra Series 4 "Nova Lake" desktop processors, with some SKUs carrying enlarged last-level caches.

The naming detail matters because bLLC describes the underlying technology, while BFC will mark the processor models that include it, much as AMD's 3D V-Cache branding distinguishes its stacked-cache chips. Intel has been working on these enlarged-cache SKUs for over a year, so the branding is the new development here.

The Nova Lake series will keep the Core Ultra naming scheme introduced with the current Core Ultra Series 2 "Arrow Lake" generation, but add 4-digit model numbering that TechPowerUp compares to the 4th Gen Core "Haswell" era. In these model names, "K" and "KF" indicate an unlocked base frequency multiplier, while "BFC" signals the presence of the enlarged cache.
