THE CRUNCH
A modder has rapidly optimised a workaround that lets AMD Radeon GPUs use Nvidia's DLSS 5 Neural Rendering, bringing framerates in Cyberpunk 2077 from barely playable to around 50 FPS. The DLSS-NR-on-AMD project, which intercepts Nvidia's DLSS 5 DLL and routes the neural computation onto AMD hardware, received two updates in 24 hours that together added roughly 74% performance. Alpha 0.3.3 brought a 23% boost, followed by Alpha 0.4.0, which added another 42% improvement. A subsequent Alpha 0.4.1 update delivered an additional 8% performance gain. The tool now includes a graphical installer and settings editor to automate the setup process, which previously required manually copying DLL files. Testing by YouTuber Ancient Gameplays in Cyberpunk 2077 at 3440x1440 showed framerates rising from around 30 FPS on earlier builds to roughly 50 FPS on Alpha 0.4.0. While the mod remains in alpha and still suffers from stuttering and crashes in some titles, it has transformed the experience from a slideshow to a playable one. The developer has indicated that further major updates are in the works to continue improving performance.
