THE CRUNCH
Hell Clock, the indie roguelike action RPG, has a new major update called the Journey of Miracles, free for anyone who owns the game. It reworks a normal campaign run with new rewards and challenges, in the spirit of Diablo and Path of Exile's seasonal leagues, but with one key difference: Journeys are permanent, so nothing disappears after a few months.
With the Journey toggled on, finding a statue triggers juiced-up combat encounters, and surviving them earns powerful buffs called Divine Blessings. Some are strong enough to reshape builds, such as one that grants the benefits of a Shrine, including extra movement speed and bonus XP, just for drinking a potion. A full list of each blessing is on the Steam page.
The update also adds several new Relics, the gear-like items that supply most of a character's power in Hell Clock, many with unique effects that change how abilities work. One new Relic boosts lightning bolt damage but forces the bolts into a straight line. There is also a new underground crypt area with a miniboss and a long list of patch notes.
Like the earlier Journey of Nightmares, the new content is entirely optional and can be switched on or off at the start of any run, and both Journeys can be enabled together. That means there is no rush to see everything before it vanishes, which suits a game built for dipping into a run whenever time allows.
