THE CRUNCH

Apple has published estimated out-of-warranty repair costs for the iPhone Duo, and fixing Apple's first foldable without coverage does not come cheap. Inner display damage runs $999, which is half the phone's $1,999 starting price, while "other damage" costs $1,499 and a battery replacement is $229.

AppleCare Plus softens the blow considerably: battery service drops to $0, and both inner display repairs and other accidental damage cost $99. AppleCare Plus with Theft and Loss is a separate product, priced at $19.99 per month, $199.99 per year or a flat $399.

The pricing lands ahead of the phone's October 23rd release, with preorders opening on Friday at 8AM ET. When Apple unveiled the Duo in September, its $1,999 price sat just above rivals like the Pixel 11 Pro Fold and Galaxy Z Fold 8, so buyers weighing the foldable against those Android alternatives now have another cost to factor in.
