THE CRUNCH
Tuxedo Computers has launched the Stellaris 16 Gen 8, a 16-inch Linux desktop replacement laptop with an optional liquid cooling system. The German maker's new machine runs Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus processors with NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPUs ranging from the 5070 up to the 5090, all in an aluminium chassis measuring 357 x 260 x 28 mm and weighing up to 2.8 kg depending on configuration.
Cooling is the headline trick. Three internal fans support up to 240 W of combined CPU and GPU power, and buyers can add the Tuxedo Aquaris, an external docking station that circulates distilled water through a dedicated pipe inside the notebook. The trade-off is portability: once the water loop is connected, the laptop is far less mobile. Tuxedo's own Control Center software handles CPU power limits and fan speeds.
Specifications are generous. Display choices cover a 300 Hz matte IPS panel, a 300 Hz Mini-LED with G-Sync, or a 240 Hz OLED rated at 1000 nits. Memory is either 96 GB of DDR5-6400 or 128 GB of DDR5-5600, and storage uses two M.2 slots, one PCIe 5.0 and one PCIe 4.0. The SSDs, RAM slots, Wi-Fi module and 99 Wh battery are all reachable under the bottom cover.
The base configuration starts at €2,350 excluding VAT and import duties, with a Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus, GeForce RTX 5070 Ti, a 500-nit IPS DCI-P3 display, 16 GB of DDR5-5600, a 500 GB SSD and Tuxedo OS.
