THE CRUNCH

Some Sonic Racing CrossWorlds players are arguing that Year 2's paid content should come free with the Digital Deluxe Edition, pointing to Sega's pre-release marketing. A tweet from June 2025, three months before the game's September 25 launch, described the Deluxe Edition as including the base game, Season Pass, "all future paid downloadable content" and bonus Sonic Prime characters. Because that phrase was listed separately from the Season Pass, players claim it should cover Year 2 as well.

Sega detailed Year 2 over the weekend: six more crossover packs, sold individually or via a $29.99 Year 2 Season Pass. At the same time, the publisher permanently cut the base game's price from $70 to $40, and the Digital Deluxe Edition from $90 to $60. Year 2 begins on November 3 with a paid Godzilla crossover pack.

Free content is continuing alongside the paid packs, including Bayonetta on November 3, a McLaren Racing car and Sonic skin in late November, and Aigis from Persona 3 Reload in early 2027. Season Pass buyers get Genesis, Saturn and Dreamcast controller decal packs now, with console-themed vehicles arriving when Year 2 launches; owners of both passes also receive Super Shadow and his Super Dark Flare vehicle.

At face value, the tweet appears to have been an unfortunately worded promise made when no content beyond the first year may have been planned. It had not been removed at the time of writing, and Sega has not yet commented on the dispute.
