THE CRUNCH
Tencent has released Hy4, the finished version of the language model it previewed about two months ago. The model gains image understanding for the first time, recognising fine details in photos and complex diagrams, and can operate software on its own, including professional tools such as Blender and CAD programs and multi-application task sequences. For now it is available only through Tencent Cloud, OpenRouter and Tencent apps such as the Yuanbao chatbot; the model weights will follow at an unspecified date.
Tencent says Hy4 was trained on significantly more data than its predecessor and ranks among the strongest open-weight models, though that claim will only be fully testable once the weights appear. The company highlights finance and office work: in its own test, over 200 finance professionals evaluated the model on nearly 600 real-world tasks and ranked it ahead of Chinese rivals Deepseek V4.1 Flash, Kimi K3.1 Pro and GLM-5.3 Flash. Hy4 can also collaborate with humans in real time on Word, Excel and PowerPoint files.
An early independent assessment from Artificial Analysis is more measured. On its Intelligence Index, Hy4 scores 35 points, above the index median of 30 and tied with Grok 4.7, placing it second among Chinese lab models behind Kimi K3.1 Pro at 46. Without web search, the picture dims further: on the AA-Omniscience factual accuracy test, Hy4 answers about half the questions correctly from training data, and when it does not know an answer it makes one up 89 percent of the time rather than admitting the gap.
Tencent itself concedes that Hy4 still falls well behind the best commercial models on hard tasks such as advanced math, longer coding projects and complex image analysis. Pricing stays at preview levels, roughly $0.83 per million input tokens and $2.50 per million output tokens, and a faster, cheaper Hy4 flash variant is planned next. With the weight release in mind, the company says it filtered hacking-related material from training and will publish a detailed safety report alongside the weights.
